Report on NCU 65 Ceremony

                             By Tian Yunyan

Yu Yiping (Chicago) and I represented NCUAANA to attend NCU 65 ceremony in Nanchang on May 4, 2005.  The ceremony was held in Nanchang University¡¯s new campus. Estimated 5000 people, including leaders, guests, teachers, students, and alumni, attended the celebration. Congratulation letters were read from Jiangxi Provincial Government, Education Minister of Jiangxi Province, France, Korean, and Zhongzheng University of Taiwan, etc.  List of names who sent congratulation letters or made donations were also read in the ceremony.  President Zhou Wenbing, teacher, alumni, and student representatives gave speeches.

NCUAANA donated 15,000 RMB to NCU. I will scan the receipt and post it in our website.  We had raised $830CAD, which is equivalent to 5,480RMB; and $1350US which is exchanged to 11,150RMB. In total, the Canadian and US funds were exchanged to 16,630RMB. After the donation, I still have1,630RMB in my hand. I was trying to reserve this balance to buy some Nanchang University flags for our Regions to use in gathering meetings, but not got a chance to discuss this in details with Alumni office of NCU.

I had short meetings with President Zhou, Gan Xiaoqing - VP,  and Jin Xiaohua ¨C Alumni Office. Below are the key points we discussed:

  1. NCU is very pleased that NCUAANA attended the ceremony, and made donation to NCU. Each of the leaders praised members of NCUAANA in caring and supporting of NCU¡¯ s development and progress. NCU welcome all alumni visit NCU, in any kind of forms such as giving lectures, cooperation, or just drop by, whenever we had a chance in Nanchang. President Zhou will handle all important issues related to NCUAANA.
  2. Discussed the possibility to establish an annual visiting program for information, academic, and scientific exchange. This may be in a form of 6-8 people delegation group visiting NCU for 3-4 days.
  3. To better communicate with other alumni, classmates, and friends, it was suggested that NCUAANA have contact list in Chinese version.
  4. Disscussed the possibility to established a NCUAANA Graduate Scholarship with NCU matching funds.
  5. To arrange 1-2 articles each year to be published in NCU Alumni magazine. The articles will introduce outstanding members of NCUAANA.

These issues and their implementation can be further discussed with NCUAANA.
